Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity - Leighton Artist Studios Residency

We've just completed a two week residency at the wonderful Banff Centre as part of their Leighton Artist Studios Program https://www.banffcentre.ca/painter-house. It was the first time the three of us had written together and we are excited about this new group of songs.

Kim had a terrific idea - writing songs based around a theme. We mulled it over some and decided to write songs inspired by the photos of Dorothea Lange. Dorothea is known for her wonderful photographs of the folks who left their wind and dust ravaged farms in the area known as No Man's Land (the Oklahoma Panhandle) in the 1930's. The photos we based the songs around include "Migrant Mother", "Tractored Out", "First Car", a story about a two year old little girl Rena Marie who died from "dust pneumonia", and another of Dorothea's photos "On the Road".

We hope to have these songs recorded within the coming months with a visual presentation to accompany the music as well.

Our residency was highly successful and we are honoured to have had this opportunity.

Stay tuned!

Welcome to The Primary Colours' new home here in cyberspace!

DOUG COX     - Courtenay BC (Dobro, Mandolin, Vocals)

LINDA McRAE - Nashville, TN (Banjo, Guitar, Vocals) (originally from BC)

KIM RICHEY     - Nashville, TN  (Guitar, Percussion, Vocals)

We are thrilled to announce our new trio The Primary Colours.

We first got together in January 2018 in Linda's kitchen in Nashville, TN. Kim recorded three songs from our rehearsals on her trusty ipad. You can find them on our videos page.

“Each of us have solo careers in folk, country, and roots music. We bring a big variety of musical interests to the group. You can see that in our choice of cover songs – the Kinks, Queen, Bill Kirchen, plus our original songs. We don’t have a specific lead singer and are constantly changing things up. We all take turns singing lead and harmony. There is a lot of instrument swapping going on." Kim Richey

Doug, Linda and Kim have their first shows coming up this summer.

We hope to see you at one of our shows.
